Terry Ryusaki

​Terry Ryusaki, a San Diego philanthropist, founded Amethyst Landing in 2010.  Amethyst Landing was in the forefront of affordable housing for the gay men, restarting their lives and integrating them into the upscale Bankers Hill community of San Diego (see Founders Blog).  Terry has served in a leadership capacity on the following nonprofit boards:  Board of Trustees of the National Arthritis Foundation, Chairman of the SD Arthritis Foundation, Chairman of Malashock Dance, and Treasurer of the Uplift Housing Network.

  • A California licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist and American Society for Clinical Pathology certified Medical Technologist trained in drug toxicology.
  • A retired San Diego Biotech Executive, was formerly the CEO of CYBIOS (f.k.a. Morphogen Pharmaceuticals). 
  • Acquired patented non-embryonic stem cell technologies from MIT, NYU, and Mercer College in 1998 and advanced the technology through product development. In 2008, CYBIOS sold it's developed stem cell technology, knowhow and patent assets to ABT Holdings, a subsidiary of Athersys, Inc. [NASD: ATHX], who are now in worldwide clinical trials utilizing stem cells to treat stroke, heart attacks and other diseases.
  • Prior to CYBIOS, served as Vice President for Vital Therapies (BioArtificial Liver), Aprogenex (Genetics, HIV viral load) and had a successful 10-year career with Baxter Healthcare Corporation.
  • MBA from the University of Southern California, BA in Microbiology and BS Medical Technology from the University of Hawaii.

​Not everyone fares well in the early stages of recovery. We're so in a hurry sometimes to get back to "normal," that we sometimes forget that we are not going back but beginning anew.
Residents who stay connected in drug free homes, like ours, have 4 times a greater chance to avoid a relapse.
